This sample was found during a routine postmortem examination of a 56-year-old man who died of rheumatic heart disease. - Pathology:
The kidney is 12 cm long, and the two parts are joined at the lower pole, forming this horseshoe shape. The ureters are visible as a bulge on the anterior aspect of the 3D print. The kidney is horizontally dissected, which is clearly visible on the posterior aspect. There is a preserved fetal lobulation. The renal pelvis is characteristically anteromedially positioned, and the ureters run in front of the joined lower poles or renal protuberance.
