This specimen is a resected segment of the descending colon. A single dark lobulated mass is seen rising from the mucosal surface. It is attached to a stalk that is 4 cm long. Histologically, the mass consists of a connective tissue core covered by hyperplastic mucosal epithelium with focal columnar nuclear atypia. This is an example of a tubular colonic adenoma.
