Erler-Zimmer GmbH & Co. KG 3D model of retrosternal goiter:
- Model Number: MP2101
- Clinical Presentation:
A 60-year-old woman presented with an abnormal swelling in her neck, persistent cough, and difficulty swallowing. She had gained weight over the past few years. She died of an unrelated cardiovascular disease, and the specimen was obtained postmortem. - Pathology:
The specimen, removed after death, includes the larynx, trachea, and a large multilobed thyroid gland. The thyroid gland is grossly enlarged, especially the right ventricle, which has two large lobes that protrude upward and downward by 7-8 mm, well beyond its normal margins when viewed in anterior view. Posteriorly, the esophagus has been opened to expose the posterior surface of the tracheal wall. The right ventricle appears larger than in anterior view, and the abnormal growth appears to be in the lower part of the right ventricle. The surfaces show no gross changes in pigmentation. Prominent veins are visible on the surface of the right ventricle.
