Erler-Zimmer GmbH & Co. KG 3D model of multinodular goiter:

  • Model Number: MP2101
  • Clinical Presentation:
A 53-year-old woman presented with an abnormal swelling in her neck and a persistent cough. She had complained of weakness and weight gain over the past few years. While a subject, she died a few months later of unrelated cardiovascular disease.
  • Pathology:
The specimen, removed after death, includes the base of the tongue, the larynx, and the trachea. It has been sectioned in the coronal plane to provide an internal anatomical view of the larynx and trachea. The thyroid gland is grossly enlarged, especially the right ventricle, which protrudes superiorly and inferiorly, well beyond its normal margins when viewed from the anterior aspect. When cut along the posterior surface, both ventricles contain numerous hypertrophic and hypopigmented nodules, as well as cystic areas. The base of the tongue, the larynx, and the trachea appear relatively normal.
