• Clinical history
  • The patient was a 24-year-old woman who presented with abnormal electroencephalograms (EEGs) following a single epileptic seizure 18 months before her death.
  • Six months later, she complained of blurred vision and headaches.
  • Bilateral appendicitis was noted on ophthalmoscopy; however, there were no local signs to explain this.
  • During additional investigations, a mass of mass was noted, which was removed by biopsy and histologically diagnosed as a grade III-IV glioma.
  • The patient was treated with radiation therapy.
  • A month after starting treatment, the patient experienced weakness in his left arm and leg.
  • Shortly thereafter, she was admitted with drowsiness and vomiting; she died rapidly thereafter.
• Pathology
  • The specimen shows a large intracerebral mass that has obliterated the lateral ventricles and the inner 2/3 of the internal capsule and basal ganglia on the right side.
  • It infiltrates through the corpus callosum and distorts the aqueduct.
  • The tumor is quite well defined and vascular, with numerous areas of hemorrhage and necrosis, causing a marbled appearance.
