With its 1% accuracy, ThetaProbe has set the standard for soil moisture measurement for over 20 years.
High accuracy, yet easy to use
With the ML3 ThetaProbe Soil Moisture Sensor, it's easy to take reliable and accurate soil moisture measurements. Simply insert the soil moisture sensor into the soil, connect it to your data logger or readout device, provide 5-14 V DC at 18 mA, and you'll be recording soil moisture in seconds.
The ML3 ThetaProbe is durable, submersible and maintenance-free (IP68 environmental rating). It can be easily installed at depth using optional extension tubes.
ML3 has excellent salt response, its island response has been described at EC values up to 2000 mS.m-1. It also has a wide operating temperature range, allowing it to be used at temperatures below -40 ºC (non-flexible cables).
The ML3 has a thermistor sensor to measure soil temperature (the sensor must be fully buried).
Data logging and reading
The ML3 can be logged by any Delta-T data logger; it is compatible with any logger that can provide 5-15 V DC input power and accept a 0-1 V output signal. For portable use, the ML3 connects to the HH2 Moisture Meter, and they can be ordered together as a convenient ThetaKit - see below (note that the HH2 Meter does not read temperature).
Simple installation
The ML3 ThetaProbe can be buried and its cylindrical shape makes it easy to install in holes (45 mm diameter). The heavy-duty stainless steel stems can be replaced if bent or damaged. The sensor's crushable base can be connected to optional 50 cm and 100 cm extension tubes.
Adaptation
Typical applications include irrigation, hydrology, civil engineering, soil water profiling, pollution monitoring and forestry. Because the ThetaProbe has a predictable island response (which actually decreases with increasing salt content), it can be used even in very saline soils, up to 2000 mS.m-1.
ThetaProbe can also be used in non-soil environments.
ThetaKit
The ThetaKit, supplied in a convenient box, has everything you need to accurately determine soil moisture content. The kit is complete with a dedicated HH2 Moisture Meter for instant reading, a penetration tool for hard soils and a set of replacement tubes.
ThetaKitai is a great choice for turfgrass applications.
It is worth noting that the HH2 Meter does not read or record a temperature reading.
