The patient was found to be hypokalemic. A sigmoid colon tumor was found and subsequently removed.<\/li>\n<li>Pathology:<br \/>\nA 15 cm segment of bowel was excised to reveal a large sessile tumor with a smooth surface. The tumor measured 11 x 7 cm. in diameter and extended to within 2 cm. of the distal resection margin. The mucosa was otherwise normal. The serous surface was not prominent. Histological examination confirmed the presence of a villous adenoma.<\/li>\n<li>Additional information:<br \/>\nOccasionally, villous adenomas secrete large amounts of mucoid protein and\/or potassium-rich fluid, sufficient to cause hypoalbuminemia or hypokalemia. Villous adenoma is the least common but most dangerous type of adenomatous polyp.
