All of the upper and middle lobe ventricles are congested and hyperemic, giving them a darker appearance. There are smaller spots in the left lung.<\/li>\n<li>Additional information:<br \/>\nLobar pneumonia is a form of pneumonia characterized by the presence of inflammatory exudate in the inter-alveolar space, causing consolidation that affects a large and permanent portion of the lung ventricle. It is one of two anatomical classifications of pneumonia (the other being bronchopneumonia). In this case, the affected ventricle shows the classic red &quot;hepatization&quot; or consolidation of the lung parenchyma, which is due to vascular congestion with the spillage of red cells into the alveolar spaces, accompanied by an increase in neutrophils and fibrin. The filling of the airspaces with exudate causes an external appearance of hardening, or consolidation, of the alveolar parenchyma.
